Answer 1. A member of my household has been living with a disability since 1995, and it has affected our lives in many forms. Your whole life changes with a lot of challenges and adjustments. I saw how our world is not designed for people with disabilities and I resolved to do my part to change this. This is why I am running for the NDP to keep building a province where everyone matters.
Answer 2. As the population in Morris ages, there will be a need for more assisted living homes and supports for people living with disabilities. Access in rural areas is a challenge, but the NDP brought in the Accessibility for Manitobans Act to make sure all Manitobans enjoy access and respect no matter where they live. An NDP Government will continue to invest in Morris and build facilities that accommodate people living with with disabilities.
Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba Candidate - Shannon Martin
Answer 1: As the former Executive Director of Reaching Equality Employment Services, a nonprofit organization that assists persons with physical disabilities or health conditions find employment I feel I have a good perspective on the challenges not only our clients faced, but the organizations who are trying to assist them every day. There was nothing more rewarding than when a client who you had been working with advised that they had secured employment. The changes in our clients was evident from their demeanour to their smile, all because an employer recognized the value of hiring them.
Answer 2: Employment opportunities continues to be the greatest challenge facing my constituencies who identify as a person with a disability. I will continue to work to break down the stereotypes that too many persons with a disability face when seeking work, while educating employers on the value of hiring a person with a disability.
